Why Reinvent the Wheel?

In developing PORTFOLIO MANAGER©, our performance standards were high. We wanted a platform that was powerful, yet user-friendly. One that supported multi-user access but did not require specialized hardware. Finally, we wanted to build a system that would be cost efficient for small to mid-sized companies.

Our solution was to leave much of the hard-core programming to Mr. Gates and the Microsoft Corporation. Using Visual Basic® and Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) technology, we tapped the Microsoft Office® software suite for the system components we needed.

PORTFOLIO MANAGER© has the appearance and functionality of an application built from scratch. The bundled Microsoft technology also provides the ideal platform for complex data manipulation, analysis, storage and report writing.

PORTFOLIO MANAGER’S familiar Windows interface allows users to focus on the creation and manipulation of data, rather than on the operating environment. Users are shielded from the underlying complexity of the system by a menu driven graphical interface and custom toolbars. Even the occasional user will have little difficulty navigating the system.

ODBC is an open, vendor neutral specification based on the SQL Access Group (SAG) Call Level Interface. This protocol has become the standard for database applications. Therefore, information generated by PORTFOLIO MANAGER© can be easily accessed by other applications within the company.

Data security is a built-in feature of Microsoft Access®. Access to individual forms, tables and reports can be protected and restricted. In addition, users can be differentiated with privileges to update data or view (but not edit) the database.

PORTFOLIO MANAGER© has a unique data staging structure for concurrency control. This method of data transfer also gives users the flexibility of running their models with official corporate data ( only authorized personnel can edit official records) or with data from personal files.
